I have a couple of common report/dashboard scenarios where I found it quite difficult to locate articles on the expected automatic refresh process. Much of what I do provides business user solutions so much of the solutions I train on or build utilise out of the box Office 365 functionality.

Scenario 1 – Excel workbook stored in OneDrive for Business

The simplest example is connecting a powerbi.com dashboard to an Excel workbook that is stored in the user’s OneDrive for Business library.

Scenario 2 – Power BI Desktop file and Excel data source stored in OneDrive for Business

The Excel data source and the Power BI Desktop file are stored in OneDrive for Business. Assuming that scheduled refresh is on and that the Data source credentials Office 365 account is signed in with OAuth2 then the dashboard will refresh daily.
